In spite of the rain, 150-plus individuals showed up at The Moss Point Mississippi Community Services ministry event, which included fun and games for the children. The members shared the second annual city-wide fest on Sunday, August 21, 2016. They passed out school supplies for the youth, and Disaster Starter Kits for special needs children. The South Central Conference community services co-director, Lillie Buckingham, and disability ministries director, Nettie Henderson, set up their booths and shared a myriad of resources with the community that day.
This event had the support of city officials: Billy Broomfield, mayor; Susan White, economic development director; Aldermen Houston Cunningham; Kathy Keaton, community development director; Art McClung, police chief; Shannon Vincent, superintendent of schools; Tommie Posey, fire chief; and other guests, including many local pastors who offered support.
The week of August 21-27 was filled with activity as nightly services began on Sunday, and continued to the following Sabbath. Prentice Sorrells, pastor, Harvest Church, Harvest, Ala., preached Spirit-filled messages echoing the theme, “Moss Point Shall Live and Not Die.” The church members were inspired, and reminded that Jesus has a specific desire to see those at Moss Point abundantly blessed and filled with His power. In addition to the blessed services, the Lord increased His kingdom with three decisions for baptism. Candidates Alice Jefferson, Sheila Scott, and David Patton were the fruits of the harvest. They studied the Amazing Facts Bible Study course, and were later baptized by David K. Jones, D.D., pastor.
