It is an honor to offer prayers of blessing upon each household, family, and member of the Southern Union for this New Year. 2017 was a year of successes and failures, victories and defeats, and triumphs and tragedies. The ebb and flow of life has a unique way of ushering us into circumstances that encourage and discourage us, inspire and debilitate us, and motivate and drain us of hope. This spectrum of divergent emotions predisposes us to make resolutions for the New Year. The resolutions may include things such as weight loss, finding a spouse, acquiring professional status, achieving greater financial margins, enjoying financial independence, or pursuing a closer walk with God. I can attest to the journey of scaling a spectrum of my own. I am poised, by God’s power, to unleash my primary resolution. It has become my driving quest to alert as many people as I can to the imminent coming of Jesus.
Civilization, as we now experience it, cannot last much longer. God is about to change the current course of this world’s history. With the ascendency of atheistic philosophy and the upheaval of crime and international contention, planet Earth is on the verge of destruction. Too many responsible citizens of this world are unaware of the nearness of the return of our Lord. My resolution is to warn people to get ready by inviting them into a meaningful relationship with Jesus. I am praying that you will join me this year in our plans to gear up for the Southern Union 2019 Year of Lay and Pastoral Evangelism.
I need to share counsel with you from the Spirit of Prophecy surrounding the rationale and need to reach the Southern Union territory for Jesus:
“The disciples were to teach what Christ had taught. That which he had spoken, not only in person but through all the prophets and teachers of the Old Testament, is here included. Human teachings is shut out. There is no place for tradition, for man’s theories and conclusions or for church legislation. No laws ordained by ecclesiastical authority are included in the commission. None of these are Christ’s servants to teach. ‘The law and the prophets,’ with the record of His own words and deeds, are the treasure committed to the disciples to be given to the world,” Evangelism, page 15.
“Now is the time for the last warning to be given. There is a special power in the presentation of the truth at the present time; but how long will it continue? Only a little while. If there was ever a crisis, it is now,” Evangelism, page 16.
“As a people we greatly need to humble our hearts before God, pleading His forgiveness for our neglect to fulfill the Gospel commission. We have made large centers in a few places, leaving unworked many important cities. Let us now take up the work appointed us, and proclaim the message that is to arouse men and women to a sense of their danger. If every Seventh-day Adventist had done the work laid upon him, the number of believers would now be much larger than it is,” Testimonies for the Church, 9:25.
Join me in this 2018 resolution to evangelize the Southern Union territory with fresh ideas and renewed fervor. —RCS
