The “Better Living” Revival in Wrens, Ga., started by literally whetting the community’s appetite with a healthy cooking demonstration, followed by a full-course Sunday dinner. All attendees received a folder with healthy recipes and additional information. The revival was held October 15-28, 2017.
The preaching portion of the revival began the next night at 7 p.m. Guest evangelist Wesley Bruce is a retired pastor from the Southeastern Conference. His ministry truly revived many of the members, and they remember when Bruce assisted Emmanuel Jackson, pastor, with a crusade in 1979. That meeting helped build up the Wrens Church, and led to the baptism of many members who still faithfully attend today.
Many were blessed by the musical ministry of Bruce’s wife, Toni Bruce, and were moved as she shared her personal testimony: “What happens when a woman leaves God.” The power of the Holy Spirit blessed the Bruces’ ministry to lead nine attendees to commit their lives to Christ in baptism.
Preparations for the meeting included a mass mailing of The Great Controversy to every residence in Jefferson and Burke counties in Georgia. That was followed by an eight-week CREATION Health seminar in Waynesboro, Ga. Follow-up activities included a letter and tract mailed to each visitor, and a telephone invitation to “come worship with us again.”
The host pastor, Stephan Davis, is greatly appreciative for the teamwork from various area churches that helped bring it all together. The collaboration included first elders Henry Lewis Jr. (Wrens) and Clinton Jones (Ebenezer/Augusta); Bible workers Shirley Johnson (Ebenezer/Augusta) and Christine Lewis (Wrens); and cooking school instructors Maria Scarlett (Wrens health leader), Beverly Scarlett (First Augusta Church), and Shirley Johnson (Ebenezer/Augusta). Gwen Jackson, Maria Beard, and Annie and Denise Walker, assisted with kitchen preparations. Jay James, elder, was the camera man, while his sons, Jayden and Bryce, handled event registration.
