Students and sponsors from Madison Academy, Highland Academy, and Spring Valley Academy served in Clay County, Ky., on September 26, 2018, to one of the poorest counties in the country, as part of the 2018 POWER Outreach.
For the past six years, students on the POWER Outreach have partnered with Manchester Memorial Hospital and Manchester Church on projects that benefit the community. This year, students aided in building a new playground for the local school, renovated a youth camp, improved a home for teenage mothers who struggle with drug addictions, and more.
Along with these projects, a group went to the home of a struggling family with an 8-year-old daughter. Not only did the students make their home much more livable, but by the end of the week, the parents made decisions for baptism. They mentioned that seeing young people living out their faith played a big role in their decision.
This trip was not only beneficial to the families that were helped, but also for the students. Many have come home with memories that they describe as the defining moment in their high school experience. They believe this is because God created all to serve; all were created to have a unified purpose of helping others.
The POWER Outreach has shown how, when young people from different schools, cultures, and backgrounds come together with a unified purpose, nothing is impossible.
