The Paducah, Ky., and Murray, Ky., churches in Kentucky-Tennessee Conference celebrated and honored the retirement of Dennis Altrogge, pastor, along with his wife, Dorothy, on December 22, 2018. The retirement reception included a special potluck meal, followed by speeches of thankfulness given by the members, and ended with a slideshow presentation of pictures and memories. It was a special time to honor Altrogge and his wife for their almost 40 years of ministry, which began in 1979.
Altrogge’s ministry career has included working for four unions, Southwestern, Lake, Mid-America, and Southern; and five conferences, beginning in Texas, followed by Indiana, Minnesota, Dakota, and Kentucky-Tennessee. In all, he has been the pastor of 24 churches. He also served on the conference committee in Indiana, and two terms on the academy board in Minnesota.
One of the biggest strengths of the Altrogges is their ability to connect and form relationships with their members. They have made it a point to return to and visit each district they’ve been in, some more than once. This is something they plan to continue into retirement.
The Altrogges plan to move to Tallahassee, Fla., so they can be closer to family. With a son, daughter-in-law, and grandson in Washington state, as well as a daughter, son-in-law, and two more grandsons residing in Georgia, they will no doubt fill their time with traveling and visiting. They also have a love for the outdoors, and hope to spend much time in God’s creation. Altrogge is a talented woodworker and handyman, with plenty to keep him busy in his shop.
The lives touched during his ministry career are countless in number, and the members wish them both blessings and fun during the next stage of their lives.
