The Mt. Juliet mission group officially became a company on Sabbath, January 26, 2019, a milestone in the ongoing story of the young church plant. It was a time of celebration for what God had done.
Their story began with the conviction from Conference leadership to plant a new church in the greater Nashville area. Jon Remitera, the pastor fresh out of the seminary, was tasked with the endeavor. With little experience in church planting, Remitera set out by reading books, attending conferences, and getting advice from leading church planters. He realized that church planting was a lot bigger than him. It had to be more than just establishing another church service. It was about fulfilling the call of Christ to go and make disciples of all nations.
The vision was cast at the mother church, Nashville First in Nashville, Tenn., to answer the call to plant a new church. Many answered the call, but a small group of young adults emerged as the leaders. They gathered on Sabbath afternoons and prayed for God to lead them where He wanted the church planted. They surveyed the greater Nashville area and felt called to plant in Mt. Juliet.
While it started with great enthusiasm and fervor, it almost ended not long after. The mission group leadership team dwindled until there were less than 10 people. Discouraged and contemplating quitting, the leaders prayed and fasted for God’s guidance. They were impressed to keep going, and they continued forward and launched in 2016. Since then, God has brought new leaders and members that have caught the vision and believe in the mission to reach the community for Christ! The difficulties of church planting have revealed some of God’s greatest blessings, and He’s not done yet! With His blessing, they anticipate becoming a church in two years.
