As a Pathfinder, I never wanted to go to Oshkosh. My old Pathfinder director took the Pathfinder club everywhere but Oshkosh. Due to not having enough money and our Pathfinder club missing school, Oshkosh was never spoken of again.
After a new director arrived, he brought new interests with him — including the topic of Oshkosh. He had never been to Oshkosh and wanted to go. After discussing it again, Oshkosh became a priority. All the Pathfinders wanted to go. Everyone started thinking about how they would get the money, how they would get off from school, or even if it was going to be fun. After many months my church finally scrambled together enough money for the Pathfinders to go. Everyone was packed, and we started the trip to Oshkosh.
Wow! The tents, the people, the colors, and the different nationalities were amazing. My hometown of Hattiesburg, Mississippi, has a population of 47,000, but The Chosen Camporee of 2019, had more than 50,000 people from all around the world.
What a schedule, I thought — campfire cooking, tent sleeping, honors of every description, activities of your choice, and exciting worship services. The most exciting of all was trading pins with people from the U.S. and foreign countries.
I had three generations to attend Oshkosh 2019, my grandmother, mother, and me. It was the best time of my life. I will be ready and happy to attend the next Oshkosh Camporee.
