R. Steven Norman III
Have you ever been baptized in front of thousands of people? I have, and it was an amazing experience at the Oshkosh Camporee. I was struggling in my spiritual life, and there were a lot of changes going on that I did not understand. I really needed an encounter with Jesus, and I found it at Oshkosh.
On Tuesday night at the big worship service, Pastor Chandler was speaking, and he talked about being chosen, and how we all have a purpose in our lives. I needed to hear that, and it really touched me. I decided it was time for a change. I wanted to believe that the pain and hurt I was feeling was going to pass. I begged and questioned God, and through His amazing power that night, I realized that my trouble was going to pass. I really felt God and the Holy Spirit move within me.
I came back to my campsite and talked to my dad, and he said, “Yes! You can get baptized.” I was so happy and I felt different.
Now, fast forward to the day I get baptized. Unfortunately, my mother wasn’t able to come, though she played a big part in my decision; my parents always taught me the value of being connected to Jesus. I was also sad my friends weren’t in the baptism line with me. But, my dad baptized me because he is my pastor, and I was very happy for that.
I am better spiritually and mentally. I love my unique change!
