New Church Organized in Atlanta Suberb
A very special day for the Braselton-Hoschton Seventh-day Adventist House of Prayer was January 22, 2022, as it officially was recognized as a church.
Several years back, Lydia Mohorea, a member at the Auburn, Ga., Church at the time, felt inspired to speak with Dale Tunnell, pastor, and open the church early on Wednesdays for prayer. It was then that the small group decided to pray for the city of Braselton, a small town about 20 minutes from Auburn. Not long after, they came up with the idea to establish a church near the I-85 corridor to be easily accessible to the surrounding community.
Tunnell presented the idea to Jeff Westberg, Auburn pastor, and later the Auburn Church Board voted to sponsor the birth of the new mission group. Worship meetings took place at the community hall located in the local police department with future Prayer Meetings at a park, recalls member Linda Carling. One day, Tunnell announced that the funeral home in town was going to allow the congregation to meet there.
About a year and one-half ago, the congregation began renting the church building where worship on Sabbath is currently held. Little by little God opened more doors and opportunities for this special church family.
The service in January featured the church’s pastor, Dale Tunnell, who started off by sharing with the congregation a history of the church. The morning was celebrated through special music and testimonials from church members and official organizing actions led by Georgia-Cumberland Conference’s administration.
Chester Clark III, vice president for administration, invited the members to join the sisterhood of churches by signing the church’s charter. Kurt Allen, vice president for finance, and Kevin Kossick, vice president for education, also gave a special presentation, and the service ended with a cheerful, warm welcome into the Georgia-Cumberland Conference by Gary Rustad, Conference president, and a benediction by Victor Maddox, vice president for pastoral ministries and evangelism. Following the service, church members, their families, and friends enjoyed a delicious potluck dinner. Please keep this growing church in your prayers as it continues to work for the glory of God.
