The youth program at Camp Meeting is a much-anticipated event for the teens of the Carolina Conference. Each year, this group of young people are taken on two outings: a rafting adventure and a community service outreach project. If there is one unifying characteristic of the young people, it’s their love for outreach and community involvement.
This year there were two outreach projects to choose from. While very similar projects, they were at different locations. Their mission was to help fix up two homes — one in Waynesville, N.C., and the other just down the highway in Canton, N.C. The teens did their handyman best and repaired a front porch and water sealed it, replaced siding, and even painted the house.
This act of service emphasized the overall Camp Meeting theme, “The Gospel Changes Everything.” The teens were demonstrating the Gospel in their actions. Let us not forget Christ’s words in Matthew 25:35-40, “For I was hungry and you gave Me food, I was thirsty and you gave Me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed Me, I was naked and you clothed Me, I was sick and you visited Me, I was in prison and you came to Me.’ Then the righteous will answer him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give You drink? And when did we see You a stranger and welcome You, or naked and clothe You? And when did we see You sick or in prison and visit You?’ And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these My brothers, you did it to Me,’” (ESV).
The Carolina Conference youth have learned that their actions do not have to be large and boastful for people to see Christ’s love shining out to the neighboring world.
