The Berean Church in Brunswick, Ga., had a high day on January 14, 2023. As attendees walked in the door, they could tell something was different. The sanctuary was filled with chairs set up for extra seating, and anticipation was felt by all. It was the first time in three years that the Pathfinder and Adventurer clubs from District 1 of the Southeastern Conference were able to come together. Clubs from Jacksonville, Fla.; Thomasville, Ga.; Bainbridge, Ga.; Jessup, Ga.; Gainesville, Fla.; Lake City, Fla.; Tallahassee, Fla.; and Brunswick were represented.
The church service began with all club members marching into the sanctuary, and Pathfinder Kristty Richards led the congregation in the Legions of Honor. Gloria Blake Watts, executive director for Southeastern Club Ministries, gave a warm welcome to the congregation, and a special thank you to Ian Forbes, Berean pastor. Watts said when she asked Forbes about hosting the District Day 2023, he said, “Whatever you want, tell me, and we’ll make it happen.” The morning message, entitled “The Family Business,” was presented by Annie P. Kline, Adventurer District 1 area coordinator.
Berean Church is known for its delicious potlucks, and the one on January 14 did not disappoint. After lunch, the special day continued with an Adventurer and Pathfinder Induction Ceremony. Opening prayer was offered by Maria Hickman-Flanders, District 1 Pathfinder area coordinator, and Gwendoline Powell, Berean Pathfinder and Adventurer director and a member of the Brunswick Church, welcomed everyone and gave a big thank you to those who made the day possible. After sunset, the church hosted its first old-fashioned social that was put on hold since the beginning of COVID-19. Members and visitors enjoyed visiting with each other and partaking in good food, games, and fellowship. One member described the event as, “A glorious day!”
