How long has it been since you’ve spent all night in prayer? As a three-church district, Mt. Pisgah Worship Center, First Tuskegee, and First Union Springs, Ala., Adventist churches united for their first All-Night Prayer Service. About 30 minutes prior to sunset on Saturday, May 6, 2023, members from the district began to fill the sanctuary of Mt. Pisgah Worship Center in Troy, Ala. The district came together with the purpose of individual and corporate spiritual renewal. “Renew Me, Oh Lord, Then Renew Us” was the theme of the All-Night Prayer Service. The 11-hour event included hourly prayer focuses, sermonettes, devotional thoughts, testimonies, and inspiring music. The service ended at sunrise on Sunday, May 7, 2023, with a fellowship breakfast.
Nathan Cook, district pastor stated the service was inspired by the 10 Days of Prayer that occurred earlier this year in January. The sixth day of the 10 Days of Prayer was the inspiring catalyst for the prayer service with the intent to imitate the life experience of Christ as He, too, spent whole nights in prayer.
A custom Prayer Box sat at the front of the church where attendees placed personal prayer requests throughout the night. During breaks, members signed cards that were mailed to missing members of the three congregations the following morning. First responder agencies received calls during the night from elders who thanked them for their services, and prayed for their protection as they served the three communities.
Many in attendance stated the night of prayer was the first they ever attended. Several persons in attendance came planning to leave early and ended up staying longer than intended because God was working on their hearts, and they didn’t want to forfeit answers to prayers that were wrought. There was a strong virtual presence. Viewers stayed connected until sunrise from as far west as the state of Oregon, along with others from Texas, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Michigan, North Carolina, Georgia, and Mississippi. As the sun rose early Sunday morning, an unspeakable joy filled the atmosphere as members felt remarkably rejuvenated while singing “Side by Side We Stand.” The All-Night Prayer Service was a success. The district is prepared to receive the fruit of answered prayer, and anticipation is already building for the next meeting, which is scheduled for the fall this year.
