On the opening night of the Breath of Life Ministries Young Adult Rally, the atmosphere was charged with excitement and anticipation as attendees gathered in the windy city of Chicago, Illinois.
Co-sponsored by the Lake Region Conference Young Adult Department, under the leadership of James Doggette Jr., D.Min., the rally drew young adults from all over the country to experience the second annual rally, with the theme, “Strengthening the Core.”
On Friday night at Shiloh Church, powerful praise and worship led by Anthony Bolden paved the way for Eric Bell, pastor, who challenged attendees to remember that the challenges of life are “just cardio” strengthening faith and building endurance for this journey called life.
Performers took center stage in a full-length stage play, “The Christian Zone,” a parody of the popular show, The Twilight Zone. The play, written and directed by Danita Jones, made the audience think, cry, and laugh.
The second day of the rally was held at a brand new worship center, Greenwood Oasis, and was packed with workshops, each designed to help attendees strengthen their core in various aspects of life. Workshops on health, financial strength, emotional intelligence, and best dating practices were among the highlights. Participants left the sessions armed with practical tools to enhance their core strength.
During the main session, Koryn Hawthorne, gospel recording artist, led the congregation in a powerful worship experience, and Debleaire Snell, pastor and speaker/director for Breath of Life Ministries, delivered a transformative message that left attendees inspired to allow God to order their steps. At the end of the message, dozens of young adults came forward for prayer, rededication, and baptism. After a catered lunch, and two more rounds of core sessions, a concert featuring gospel singers closed out the evening.
The final day of the rally, September 3, 2023, was dedicated to reflection and celebration. Attendees gathered for a rooftop brunch overlooking Chicago. With stunning views, delicious food, and good music, the rally ended on a high note, as participants made new connections and recommitted themselves to the transformative power of strengthening their core.
“The Young Adult Rally was truly amazing,” shared one attendee. “The food was amazing, the event was very well organized, and the core workshops weren’t fluff, it was really good information. I can’t wait for the next young adult rally, because no matter where it is, I’ll be there!”
“The goal of our Young Adult Rally was to re-engage our younger population in spiritual things,” said Snell. “The pandemic has been crippling to this age group. Many have disconnected from church and have found false religious outlets online. We wanted to empower young adults to, with God’s help, fortify their inner selves, and equip them to navigate the challenges of life with resilience and determination.
The rally, in partnership with Lake Region Conference, was a resounding success. It encouraged young adults to look inward, ensuring they were equipped to face the complexities of life with unwavering strength. Plans are already in motion for the third annual Young Adult Rally, which will be held in 2024.
