“Aggggghhh! Matthew are you serious? That’s the third time today you’ve nearly given me a heart attack!” Hey I’m Michelle and it’s my first time here at Oshkosh. I’m not going to lie, I have high expectations of what this will be like. The worship, honors, food, meeting people, pin trading, and a lot more. Let me just tell you how me and my crew got here.
We began our trip Saturday and stopped at a nearby subway to eat before our long ride. We drove for what seemed like hours before we made it to our first mini destination. We stayed at my friend Laurel’s house and she along with her brother are Pathfinders. That night was filled with excitement and nervousness. I was excited for practically having a sleepover with my friends, but nervous, because I knew what was coming. I hardly slept a wink that night as I awoke early to get ready for the long drive into Wisconsin. The ride there wasn’t boring at all because my friend Amber was awake the whole time and always had something to say. “Guys, I’m soooooo excited! I wonder who I’m going to meet and see” and “I can’t wait to trade pins!” Amber then proceeds to pull her pins out and through my tired eyes, they looked great! Which is what I told her of course. Even though I was asleep most of the ride, we made it to our hotel. The excitement was beginning.
The minute I found out I was staying in a room with my friend Amber and my sister Monique, I was ecstatic! We dashed to our room and begin to talk complete nonsense that no one would understand but us. We watched a Disney movie and it was pretty good. The next morning began at four o’clock in the morning. Yup. But we weren’t tired at all. We were a combo of pumped and nervous. We piled into the car and drove a few more miles to campus. As we began to get near the grounds, my sister jumped up with excitement! “Oh my goodness! I can’t believe we’re here! I need to take a picture!” As she pulled out her camera, I wasn’t so jumpy and squealy. I was calm. Not tired or upset just not energetic. I wondered if I’d like the experience to follow. We made it to our area of camp began to set up tents. Needless to say it didn’t go as smoothly as possible but after everyone ate, our group finally became human. And now I’m here typing my story. Now that I’m here, I’ve not got a shadow of a doubt that I’ll regret coming here. God will send His Spirit and bless every participant of this event. I know it. Anyway, I’ve got some pins to trade and some honors to earn. Thanks for reading!
