What does Camp Meeting mean to you? Is it summertime? Is it inspiring seminars? Is it power-packed sermons? Is it reunions with friends? Sleeping in trailers, campers, or tents under the stars? Is it a 5k run, a waterslide for your children, or an M&M drop? Maybe it’s a conference T-shirt you caught one night at the gym, or a new book from the ABC store. No matter who you are or how long you’ve attended, Camp Meeting is all of these things and so much more.
The theme this year for Gulf States has been, “Will Your Anchor Hold?” The storms of life come at unexpected times for unknown reasons. This question was posed in the Conference: Will your anchor in Jesus hold when the storms come? Are you grounded enough in your relationship with Jesus to not be tossed about by the winds and waves that are sure to come?
Attendees were blessed to have speakers who gave their personal testimonies of how Jesus was able to anchor their souls in Him for His glory. Convocation in April at Camp Alamisco hosted Mike Tucker as he shared his soul, bearing testimony of how he dealt with the passing of his wife, Gayle Tucker. There was not a dry eye in the auditorium, and the group was blessed by Tucker’s sermons. During the main Camp Meeting at Bass Academy, Jim Gilley of 3ABN spoke and encouraged members to not grow weary in their service to the Lord. Gilley gave his personal testimony of how God used the local church school and evangelism crusades in his community as a child to bring him to Jesus. The final weekend speaker, Joseph Kidder, D.Min., gave a wake-up call on the importance of prayer in the life of a Christian, and also shared his testimony of how God delivered him out of his home town of Mosul in Iraq.
The Camp Meeting group was treated to spirit-filled preaching all week long from local conference pastors, as well as many inspiring and informative seminars from various presenters like Melody Caviness, Mark Sandoval, Larry Sendelbach, and more.
Whether you’re 3 or 30, 18 or 80, the question still begs an answer: Is your anchor in Jesus strong? The hope for Camp Meeting 2017 was that everyone was able to say “yes,” by the end of the meetings.
