Jay M. James, elder at the Wrens, Ga., Church, was recognized as the “Teacher of the Year” (TOTY) for the McDuffie County, Ga., Public School System for 2017-2018. James teaches business and computer science at Thomson Middle School in Thomson, Ga. He was first selected as TOTY for his school, and then at a special honors dinner for all County School TOTY candidates, James was unanimously voted to represent McDuffie County as its Teacher of the Year!
Acknowledgement honors were also given to him by his home church in Wrens, as well as his former church, Canaan Heights in Thomson. James is the third member of Wrens Church to receive the honor of County Teacher of the Year.
James gives credit to God and thanks to his parents, Julian and Maggie James of Augusta, Ga. He also says he couldn’t have done it without the supportive partnership of his wife, Betty Ellis James, who is also a teacher. She is currently homeschooling their three children, twin sons Jayden and Bryce, and daughter Bethany.
