Eddy Guerrier
Eddy Guerrier is the new chaplain for Southeastern Conference. Guerrier has been charged with outreach to the secular universities in the Miami, Fla., area, providing spiritual support to the Conference schools in south Florida, and helping to determine the spiritual direction each school should take.
His “go-getter, let’s-solve-it” attitude joins with the fact that he is mission-driven, making him fit for the task. At Miami Union Academy, he introduced himself to the student body in a way that they would never forget, as “Pastor Eddy Spaghetti.” This introduction filled the room with laughter and lightened the atmosphere. It is with such lightheartedness that he is able to reach out to students of all ages.
Guerrier has already begun to have positive impact. In a recent message that aimed to teach students of various age groups how to pray, he utilized differentiated instruction to connect with the students. He placed the students in groups with varied praying tasks. One group received notecards to write their prayers, one group received dry-erase markers to draw their praise, and one group received sticky notes to write something they pray would be forgiven. Then they placed it on a cross. The activity was well received by all age groups.
When asked about this tall order, he commented, “My greatest responsibility is the ministry of presence and the ministry of patience, before I can even start pouring into them.” His plate is running over with responsibilities, but his cup overflows with joy.
