Dorothy West passed away at the age of 90 on June 30, 2016. In her honor, Williamsburg, Ky., Church — where she was a charter member since 1968 — members, along with West’s daughters, Penny Teadue and Gayle Bell, decided to donate money to a building project for a One-day Church. The search for a building project ended after learning that more than 100,000 people were baptized in Rwanda, Africa, and churches were needed for the new congregations. They hoped to at least partially fund a church.
West lived most of her life in Williamsburg, graduated from a local college, and for many years taught in the Whitley County school system. She was well known and loved by many in the surrounding area. Members and non-members enthusiastically gave, and soon enough was accumulated to sponsor building not a partial church, but the whole church, in memory of Dorothy West.
